Glee Season 5 Episode 8 "Previously Unaired Chriatmas"

Glee season 5 episode 8, "Previously Unaired Christmas", aired this past Thursday, October 10 on Global BC. In this episode, we get to see a reedited version of last year's unaired Christmas special. The original 2012 Christmas episode was banned for being too offensive, but fan complaints have caused them to air a severely edited version of the episode.

3 main things happened this episode (remembering that this episode is set in season 4, 2012):
  1. New York: Santana, who is still recovering from her break-up with Brittany, visits Kurt and Rachel. Rachel gets Kurt and Santana jabs as Holiday elves at a shopping mall. The mall Santa turns up drunk and refuses to interact with the impatient crowd, so Rachel, Kurt, and Santana try to stall the crowd with a failed performance of "Here Comes Santa Claus". Santana then tries to replace Santa by dress up as Mrs. Claus, which doesn't go well. As things are not improving, drunk Santa's replacement, Cody Tolentino, shows up to help the trio and convinces the them to welcome him into the loft so they can have a bonding period. After some not so pleasant events, Rachel and Santana wake up the following day to find Kurt bound and gagged, learning that Cody is a con artist who has robbed them. After apologizing for the Cody incident, Rachel announces that she got the trio another gig as "living mannequins" in a clothing store.
  2. Tree Decorating Contest: Tina and Sam are put in charge of the New Directions' entry for McKinley High's annual tree decorating contest. Becky says some stupid things to Tina and Sam, which Sue reprimands her of . Sue then announces that she will be judging the tree decorating contest and plans to judge the glee club last. Despite this, the New Directions decorates their trees while singing "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree", which Sue is forced to admit that they did a good job. After Sue announces that the Glee club has won the decorating contest, Sam and Tina, notice that Becky is depressed about losing decide to give her the angel sculpture and offers her a role in the nativity scene portraying the baby Jesus.
  3. Living Nativity: Beiste announces to the Glee club that the school's nativity scene has been defaced, and Principal Figgins has asked the Christmas Club, whose members are basically the New Directions, to participate of a living nativity. Tina, Marley, and Unique decide to compete for the role of Virgin Mary and invite Kitty audition with them, but she refuses. The Glee club then gathered in the auditorium, which Marley, Tina and Unique perform "Mary's Boy Child" for the audition and Marley notices Kitty's odd reaction to their performance. Later, Will and Beiste announce the cast list for the living nativity, with Marley as Virgin Mary. Kitty then tells Marley that she feels she's not worthy of playing Virgin Mary. Kitty shares this with the Glee cub and the next day, Kitty is invited to the watch the rehearsals of their living nativity performance. Unique replaces Marley as Virgin Mary and performs a highly offensive rendition of "Love Child", causing Kitty to give in and volunteers for the role, only to find out that the performance was meant to get to accept the role.
In the end, both the "living mannequins" and the living nativity sing  "Away in a Manger", and the episode ends.

Glee will take a break over the Christmas/New Year holiday and in January. The next episode, "Frenemies", and Glee in general will return to Tuesday nights at 8/7c pm on February 25. Spoilers for episodes 9 ("Frenemies"), 10 ("Trio"), and 12("100") @ http://www.mjsbigblog.com/categories/glee-spoilers

The Most Influential Celebrities of 2014

Forbes recently released its list of the most influential celebrities of 2014. This list was based on data from E-Poll Market Research, ranking more than 6,600 celebrities on 46 personality traits based on their polling data of Americans. Both likeability and awareness metrics were factored in to break ties.

Surprisingly, most of the celebrities that made this list were directors.Steven Spielberg tops this years list with an Influential Rating of 47%, beating Oprah Winfrey, who dropped from an Influential Rating of 49% last year to 45% this year. Spielberg's success with Lincoln (winning 2/12 Oscar nominations and earning $275 million at the box office) and his amazing storytelling abilities helped make him the most influential celebrity in America.

George Lucas ends up third this year. Due to the production of Star Wars 7 and plans for 8 and 9, Lucas is still in the spotlight because of all the media and fanboy attention going to the world he created. Star Wars 7 is slated to hit theatres in 2015.
